About Deb

Deb Polun was appointed to the Town Council in 2023 to fill the open seat upon Adrienne Billings-Smith's move to the town's DEI office. Currently she chairs the Town Council's Human & Community Services Committee and serves as the vice chair of the Finance and Administration Committee as well.

Previously, Deb served on the Board of Education from 2017 through her appointment to the Town Council. She was elected as the Chairperson of the Board in 2019 and served in that capacity for two years at the height of the pandemic.

Deb is the Chief Strategy Officer for the Community Health Center Association of Connecticut (CHCACT). In that role, she partners with the state's federally-qualified health centers and others to ensure all of Connecticut's residents have access to the health care they need - regardless of ability to pay.

Professionally, Deb has spent over 20 years working on policy matters impacting low-income residents in positions with the Senate Majority Office of the Connecticut General Assembly, at the Connecticut Commission on Aging, and the CT Association for Community Action.

Deb’s community service includes serving on the West Hartford Advisory Commission for Persons with Disabilities, the League of Women Voters of Greater Hartford, the Jewish Community Relations Council, as a mentor for the West Hartford Public Schools, and various leadership positions at Congregation B’nai Tikvoh-Sholom.

A graduate of Tulane University (B.S., Psychology and Sociology) and the University of Connecticut (M.A., Social Psychology), Deb and her husband, Ian, have lived in West Hartford since 1999. Their two children, Jordan and Megan, were fortunate to have attended Aiken Elementary School, King Philip Middle School, and Hall High School. Both have graduated college and have successful careers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Deb's parents recently moved to West Hartford.
